This is slight bit of my rant, but for Finals for my debate class (and yes, I take Debate despite by quite shy personality when it comes to debating), we were assigned to persuade the audience on why we need to care about __________________, whether it be a social issue, an environmental deterioration issue, WHATEVER we wanted (which I LOVED)
Whilst all the other Debate kids hysterically went frantic from the excitement they could not contain to research about immoral legislation processes and social movements around the world, I decided to inspect something more prevalent in numerous people around the world.
As a female myself, I find it extremely bothersome whenever my menstrual cycle begins. It physically annoys me and mentally brings me down. I don’t know, it’s as if I actually have a physical enemy called Menstruation. And yes, it is TERRIBLE.
However, I found it quite vexing when I realized that all the menstruation product advertisements illuminating off my screens of entertainment media all portrayed a jubilant, composed woman tranquilly riding a swing on top of a large cotton field with her dress swaying in the wind and flowers snowing from the sky. I just felt annoyed by how unrealistic it was and how the public simply tolerated this inaccurate depiction of the true life behind a menstrual cycle.
It surely isn’t pleasant, nor does it feel fresh. These women in the advertisements act as if they could go rock climbing in Mount Everest during their menstrual cycle in their white, frilly dresses. I just cannot withstand the thought of even moving around during my own cycle, and how dare the advertisers ignore this pain?
Okay, maybe I have gone a bit TOO far with the rant but you can probably see my agitation poking through. So, I decided to actually present a Ted Talk during school about this issue, and I hope you enjoy..!
